Farm Writers' Media Release Excellence Award
In recognition of the efforts of many members in providing accurate, newsworthy information to the media in NSW, Farm Writers' Association has launched a Media Release Excellence Award. The Association seeks to have a little fun whilst recognising and encouraging excellence in crafting messages about significant agricultural or rural issues.

The award has a $500 winner-takes-all cash prize and is open to individual or corporate members of the Association. More information here or download the rules.

Entries close on 31 July 2008.

IFAJ Awards
Our affiliation to the International Federation of Agricultural Journalists (IFAJ), through the Australian Council of Agricultural Journalists (ACAJ) enables us to offer our members the opportunity to participate in a number of prestigious awards.

  • IFAJ Star Prize for Writing
The NSW Star Prize for Rural Writing recognizes excellence in print journalism in the rural sector and enables the winner meet and network with some of the world’s top agricultural journalists. The prize, provided by Farm Writers, covers registration at the IFAJ World Congress, held in a different country each year, and a contribution towards airfares. It also opens the door for the NSW winner to go on to win the right to represent Australia in the ‘world championship’ of agricultural journalism. Find out more.

  • IFAJ/ACAJ Star Prize for Photography
The Australian Star Prize for Rural Photography is organised by the ACAJ to recognize excellence in rural photography. The winners are chosen from entries forwarded by State rural media organisations affiliated with the ACAJ. The top three entries go on to represent Australia in the IFAJ Star Prize for Agricultural Photography, sponsored by DeLaval and announced during the annual IFAJ Congress.

Individual photographers who are members of an organisation affiliated with the IFAJ may also enter the international award directly. The international winner receives a trophy and 750 Euros. For more information about judging criteria and the IFAJ Award go to www.ifaj.org/photocontest/index.html

  • Alltech Young Leaders in Rural Journalism Award
This award is offered by Alltech in conjunction with the Farm Writers’ Association of NSW Inc and the ACAJ to identify up-and-coming journalists and support their leadership development. The winner represents the State in a national contest and so becomes one in five contenders for the national prize – a trip to attend that year’s IFAJ congress. The award typically covers airfares and registration costs for the congress. Find out who qualifies and how to enter.
