National agricultural awards announced
The competition was tough but it was journalists from other states that took out the national awards for the Alltech Young Leaders in Rural Journalism and Australian Star Prize awards.
The Alltech national title went to Paul Hooper, the wool, business and transport writer for Rural Press’ West Australian publication, Farm Weekly. The other finalists were our own Lucy Skuthorp (The Land), Queensland’s Brad Pfeffer, (Country Life), and South Australia’s Kerrie Lush (ABC Riverland). Thanks to Alltech, Paul will be attending the IFAJ Congress in Japan in September.
The Australian Star Prize for rural writing went to Aimee Pedler, a senior journalist with another Rural Press weekly, the Stock Journal in South Australia. The Star Prize for rural writing is sponsored by John Deere. Aimee wins $1,000 and her entry represents Australia in the international competition. Finalists for the Star Prize writing award were our entrant, Matthew Cawood from The Land, and Brad Cooper from Queensland Country Life.
